Shad Ireland, the only person on dialysis to complete an Ironman Triathlon, is coming to Penticton to speak with healthcare professionals and patients with chronic kidney disease.

Ireland will describe his experience with the disease; the anger, the hopelessness, and the turnaround. He has established the Shad Ireland Foundation to provide a resource and encouragement for patients with chronic diseases.

Ireland will speak with specialist physicians, dietitians and nurses at Penticton Regional Hospital on Sept. 11 at noon, then visit patients in the dialysis units. He will meet patients and their families at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Centre.

This program is sponsored by the Integrated Health Centre in Penticton and by Genzyme Canada Inc., makers of Renagel.
